Weekend Retreat: The art of being a Mindful Business Leader [PROGRAM]

 

FRIDAY 29 JUNE  

ARRIVAL, WELCOME, AND HEALTHY EATING

[5:00 – 7:00 PM] Arrive at AUI

ACCSettle in to your accommodation at our new, beautifully designed conference center. We will be a select group of leaders, hosted in a first-class environment where we can share our reflections and experience with each other, receive expert briefings, relax, and enjoy the delights of good food and good company.

 [8:00 – 9:00 PM] Dinner in the Dining Room 

We are making a special effort to provide healthy food for you over the whole weekend.

Dinner will include a welcome to the weekend, introductions and some icebreakers to kickstart our time together. Weather permitting, we may be able to do some star-gazing under the guidance of one of Al Akhawayn Uuniversity’s astronomers!

SATURDAY 30 JUNE

What is driving values-based leadership? What are society’s new demands? What are their implications for us as individuals and as leaders in society? What will we be offering?

[ 9:30 – 10:00 AM] The Latest Research In Neuroscience

We will look at the growing interest in mindfulness, current research by neuroscientists, and how the practice of mindfulness is helping people in an increasingly stressful world – from universities like Harvard and Oxford through corporations like Google and Audi.

[10:00 – 10:30 AM] Morning Break

[10:30 – 12:00 PM] The Choices You Make: Difficult Decisions

We will explore a grid of options that can be used for difficult decision-making. There are different ways of looking at what is best to do in any situation, what values apply and balance various criteria and goals. We will also do experimental work in exercises that we hope will engage your minds and hearts!  

[12:00 –  1:00 PM] The Secrets of Mindfulness  

We will take a deeper look into the mindfulness practices that help break the stress cycle and open up clearer, direct perception. There will be expert hands-on guided practice, experimentation and discussion.

[ 1:00 –  2:30 PM] Lunch 

Specially selected options to satisfy the healthy hunger we built up in the morning!

[ 2:30 –  4:00 PM] Short Cuts to Stress Release

Based on the research and insights in the highly regarded book, The Body Knows the Score, we will do some time-tested gentle exercise from the Chinese system of internal energy cultivation, known as Chi Kung. And explore the lessons from physical fitness about the secrets of stress release.

[ 4:00 –  4:30 PM] Afternoon Refreshments

[ 4:30 –  5:30 PM]  The Zone of Peak Performance

Key tips for leaders from the latest neuroscience research that has demolished the “myth of multi-tasking” and revealed the high performance secrets of “being in the zone”. We will also look at an in-depth study conducted by INSEAD for the EU on executive training in Corporate Social Responsibility and its surprising results that showed the value of mindfulness training.

[  5:30 –  7:00 PM] Over To You

This will be a period of free time before sunset in the mountains. You are welcome to enjoy the environment of Ifrane, have a swim, take a rest, have a relaxed conversation or spend time on your own.

We are intensely social beings, constantly communicating with and learning from each other. However, are we losing the ability to listen? A practical refresher on an art we definitely do not want to lose.
